We offer:
A traineeship of 3 months (renewable once for a maximum period of 3 months as the maximum period of the traineeship is limited to 6 months) within the Political Section of the EU Delegation to Libya, starting in June 2021.
The Political Section works closely with Libyan and international actors to contribute to the stabilisation and democratic transition of Libya. It maintains a wide network of contacts to keep itself informed about the situation in Libya and report to EEAS headquarters in Brussels. It hosts regular coordination meetings with EU member state embassies to coordinate positions and share information on political, security and economic developments, as well as on migration and human rights issues. Finally, the Political Section is involved in the Political, Economic, Security and Human Rights/IHL Working Groups of the Berlin Process.
Main tasks:
- Monitor and contribute to the analysis of political, security, economic and migration developments in Libya.
- Support the preparation of – and reporting on – meetings held by the EU Delegation with EU Member States embassies, Libyan stakeholders, diplomatic community, civil society, etc.
- Updating internal databases and overview documents with key political and security actors, etc.
- Assist in the preparation of missions and events, as needed

Qualifications or special requirements:
- If a visa is required for EU trainees, please note that it must cover the entire period of the traineeship.
- A university degree in a relevant field (political science, international relations, law, development studies, economics, or similar).
- The ability to work in a stressful environment with frequently changing priorities.
- Working proficiency in written/spoken English.
- French or Arabic language skills would be an advantage.
- Research or work/voluntary experiences relevant to the section’s work would be an advantage.

Important information to read before applying
Before applying you are requested to examine the dedicated website as well as the general eligibility criteria for a paid traineeship (Article 8 of the Decision ADMIN(2017)28 – Paid traineeship)
Each selected trainee will receive a monthly grant to cover living expenses. All costs related to travel inside the country of residence, visa, insurance, accommodation must be borne by the trainee.
Applications from non-eligible candidates will not be considered. After the evaluation of all applications, shortlisted candidates will be contacted and invited for an interview. Unsuccessful candidates will be notified by email. In case the selected candidate is not able to present the required documents, his/her candidacy will be rejected.
Non-resident candidates must provide proof that they will be covered against the risk of a pandemic and the costs of repatriation.
The traineeships can only be offered in compliance with the local legislation as well as the legislation of the country of origin. In assessing the applications received, account will need to be taken of the COVID-19 situation and its possible effects on access possibilities to the country of assignment and thus candidates currently residing in country of assignment might be preferred.
The Delegation informs that even if our Headquarters confirm the eligibility of the selected candidate, traineeships could be postponed, suspended or even cancelled considering the very evolving context of the COVID-19 outbreak in the host country as well as in the country of origin. The same rule apply if a selected candidate is unable to reach the country of assignment.
