Concours

Concours means “competition”.  This refers to the competitive nature of the EU recruitment exams and EU selection procedures. Since the pre-2010 EPSO system had been based on the French administrative examination system, as ” Concours”, even English-speakers would use this term for exams.

Concours is called competition because of the screening process in drawing up the reserve list. There are actually 2 factors: (1) each exam has an objective pass mark which is usually 50-70% of the total scores of the given exercise to pass and (2) a list of the best achieving candidates of whom only the top x among those will be invited to the Assessment Centre or will be recruited on the reserve list of eligible laureates.
